Sebastien Riffault - Auksinis Sancerre 2017

Sebastien Riffault - Auksinis Sancerre 2017

Region: Sancerre / Loire Valley

Grapes: Sauvignon Blanc

A surprisingly approachable wine despite the 50% botrytis. Smells like an orange wine but that falls away on the palate. Fresh and zesty with lots of mango, citrus and apricot. Fleshy and fruity but all balanced by the lean, minerally core of fruit. Complex, rich and very interesting.

Nerd Notes:

Sauvignon Blanc from a 1ha parcel in Verdigny, grown on clay and limestone (caillottes), with vines averaging 50 years. 50% botrytis. Direct press, then fermented and aged for two years in tank, then one year in old barrels. Zero SO2.
