Schnabel - Weinbrand NV
Region: Burgenland / Austria
This is a palate staining, conversation stopping work of art. Very simply, Karl distilled a small volume of zweigelt, blaufränkisch and pinot noir in 2004 and 2005 and then a little more pinot noir in 2007.
The final blend of this phenomenal spirit is thus roughly 80% pinot noir. After the final portion was added in 2007, the bung went in to the barrel and came out again in 2018. Bottling took place last year making this a tiny quantity of more than 10 year old cask strength brandy.
The flavours are serious, concentrated and deeply satisfying. The flavour of aged spirit and time fills the glass along with the developed fruit. This really is a cascade of flavour and aroma and spirits like this just don't come along very often.
