San Lorenzo - Verdicchio Vigne de Gino 2020
An excellent value wine from this great organic estate. Softly white fruited with notes of citrus and fennel. Textual yet with a nice line of acid. Great everyday wine and works wonderfully with food.
Les Fruits - 'Lolo' 2021
Organically farmed Sauvignon Blanc from Murdock Hill in Oakbank. Hand harvested and direct pressed on site. The juice is settled for a day or so then run to old hogsheads for natural barrel fermentation and ageing on lees until racking in January, 10 months later.
Golden straw with a brassy highlight. More evolved fruit bowl notes here rather than fresh off the tree and some oxidative complexity from the hands off elevage.
Dirty Black Denim - Barbera Novello 2021
A delightful new project crafting some truly delightful new wines. Dirty Black Denim is the Victorian wine making project of Tim and Lawrence Scanlon. They source fruit from multiple regions across Victoria, with a focus on terroir expression and alternate winemaking styles.
Their 2021 Barberra Novello is a light, bright and fresh red that offers superb drinkability without sacrificing depth and interest. Bursting with aromatics, the palate has electric acidity with watermelon and balsamic, bitter blood orange and a handful of herbs. Lip-smacking good. Works great with a chill if you fancy or just as good at ambient temp.
Inkwell - 'Infidels' 2021
Inkwell's single vineyard, hand-picked Infidels Primitivo is grown on thin loam over Pirramimma Sandstone. Fermented with wild yeast and aged nine months in 20% new French and American and 80% neutral American oak. Minimum effective SO2 added. In our opinion the best vintage of Infidels yet. Incredibly lush and velvety with both freshness and depth of flavour. Structure and drinkability at a very affordable price.
M&J Becker - Hunter Valley Syrah 2021
Here's a great Shiraz out of the Hunter Valley from M&J Becker, who have been responsible for some of the most solid value wines in Oz this year in our humble. The Beckers have a real knack for coaxing an elegance and lightness out of their wines that you wouldn't ordinarily expect from Hunter wine. Lots of fresh fruit flavours alongside notes of pepper, cocoa and violets. Drinking beautifully now and but even better with time in the cellar or a decant.
