Guillemot-Michel - Quintaine Vire-Clesse 2018
Region: Vire-Clesse / Macconais / Burgundy
Damn the wines from Guillemot-Michel are good. And while they might seem expensive, they have more complexity and minerality then most similar priced wines we have tried lately from the more fancy Cote d'Or.
On the palate the wines combines depth and ripe fruit with a core of fine, minerally acid. Aromas of lemon, peach, poached pear, and light hazelnut. Finishes long with a chalky texture to the finish. Opens up beautifully over a few hours. Fantastic.
I would actually recommend putting this away for a few years if you can, event just a 5-10 year stint. We only have a few left but possibly more coming, so if interested in a few for the cellar let us know.
Small family estate located in "Quintaine", between the villages of Viré and Clessé, in the heart of the Viré-Clessé appellation. The vines were converted to biodynamics in 1991, one of the oldest in this area. They cultivate most of the plants required for the use in their biodynamic witchcraft. Since 2012 Sophie has slowly taken over the running of the estate (along with her husband Gautier) from her parents Pierrette and Marc.
